Thank you for your interest in NetNation! We don't think changing your hosting
provider should be a mystery, so we're happy to guide you through every step of
the switch process.
Here's an overview of the switch process:
Step 1: Place Your Order
You've decided that you are dissatisfied with the service you're currently receiving
from your hosting provider and want to switch to NetNation. Begin the switch process
by signing up for a Web hosting or Ecommerce plan by calling NetNation Sales at
1-888-277-0000.
Step 2: Receive Account Confirmation Email from NetNation
Once your account is setup, you will receive a confirmation email that provides
the domain name system (DNS) information you'll need to use, in order to modify
where your domain name is pointing. It also contains your customer ID and password,
which you can use to login and activate your account in Account Manager, NetNation's
award-winning control panel.
Step 3: Activate Your NetNation Account
Next, you should login to Account Manager and reset the file transfer protocol
(FTP) password. You will use FTP to upload your Web site files and get your site
running at NetNation instead of your previous hosting provider. Changing your
password protects the security of your online data.
Step 4: Create A "Mirror" Site
To prevent any downtime to your Web site, you will be provided with a temporary
URL where you can upload and publish your Web site. Creating a "mirror" site allows
you to test your Web site on the NetNation server to make sure it works properly.
Step 5: Transfer Your DNS
Next, you need to contact your domain name registrar to transfer your domain name
to the NetNation name servers. If your domain name registrar has a control panel,
you can simply login to your account and modify your DNS (domain name system).
Change the entries to the following:
Primary Server w.dns.netnation.com 204.174.223.169
Secondary Server x.dns.netnation.com 204.174.223.225
Step 6: Wait For Changes To Take Effect
It can take 24 to 72 hours for the your DNS transfer to propagate throughout the
Internet. Because of this delay, we recommend that you mirror your Web site. (Please
refer to Step 4)
Step 7: Cancel Account With Previous Provider
Once the DNS transfer is complete, you can cancel your account with your former
hosting provider. It's important to wait until your DNS is completely transferred
to NetNation's name servers before canceling your account with your previous provider
to ensure that you will not experience downtime or lost data.
Step 8: Enjoy Great Service From NetNation!
As you can see, transferring your Web site to NetNation isn't nearly as complicated
as it might have first seemed. You can be confident that we'll do everything we
can to make the process as quick and easy as possible.
